Message from Executive Vice Chaiman of Westport Holdings

As trade becomes increasingly important in propelling economic development, the world is witnessing the opening of more new ports whilst shipping lines are upgrading to larger vessels. As Malaysia shifts from an agricultural to a manufacturing based economy which provide indigenous cargo volume, the need to move our own cargo through our own ports becomes increasingly important.
Thus began the mission to create our own hub and load centre and Port Klang was the obvious choice for the nation’s premier port. To catapult this development, the government has privatised all the three ports in Port Klang whilst promoting the role of LPK as trade facilitator. Westport is committed to increase capacity at Port Klang and has accordingly provided facilities to cater to post-panamax vessels of 5000-TEU and above and with 80,000 displacement tonnes.
Our objective is to work towards a paperless, procedureless, pilot- less and peopleless environment. Our ultimate goal is to grow into a 3 million TEU port by the turn of the century so that Port Klang will be counted amongst the top 10 ports of the world.

Nevertheless, our success is only possible with the close cooperation of North Port and South Port, Penang Port and Johor Port as well as the hauliers, the customs and immigration. To fulfill a common national objective, all ports are working together in tandem with each other to channel more cargo through Port Klang.

I take this opportunity to congratulate PKSAA for their efforts in harmonizing relations amongst port operations and shipping lines and in creasing a climate of mutual cooperation to fulfill a national agenda.
